Akana, a Native American-owned multi-discipline consulting firm with a diverse portfolio of clients and projects throughout the United States, is seeking to add a Accounts Payable Specialist to our firm.  This position is full-time, Monday-Friday, with hours between 8:00am-5:00pm.

Qualifications:

The minimum required qualifications for this position are shown below:

  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting or similar or 3 years of comparable work experience
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
  • Detail-oriented

In addition to the required qualifications the following skills are preferable:

  • Ajera experience a plus
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Time-management skills

General Responsibilities are:

  • Receive invoices, route for approval, and enter into accounting software (Ajera)
  • Reconcile processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances
  • Charge expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoice/expense reports and recording entries
  • Pay vendors by monitoring discount opportunities, verifying federal id numbers, scheduling, and preparing checks, resolving purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation; insuring credit is received for outstanding memos, issuing stop-payments or purchase order amendments
  • Process employee expenses by receiving and verifying expense reports, routing for approval, and forwarding to Payroll for disbursement
  • Maintain accounting ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions
  • Verify vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements. Enter new or update vendor names and data
  • Report sales taxes by calculating requirements on paid invoices
  • Provide accurate and effective document preparation and records management relative to the AP function in accordance with records retention policies and procedures
  • Other general accounting tasks and projects as assigned
