Senior Mechanical Commissioning Agent

Akana, a Native American-owned multi-discipline consulting firm with a diverse portfolio of clients and projects throughout the United States, is seeking to add a Senior Mechanical Commissioning Agent to our firm.  This position is full time.

 

The minimum required qualifications for this position are shown below:

  • 10+ years in the mechanical HVAC design and testing
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Mechanical or project management with demonstrated related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in CAD and Rivit
  • Able to demonstrate experience and expertise in complex mechanical facility systems
  • Solid understanding of various building automation system (BAS) controls
  • Excellent communication skills: written and verbal
  • Familiarity with IEES / ASHRAE / NEBB, etc. procedures and protocols
  • Experience with design calculations and modeling software
  • Experience in design and commissioning cost estimating
  • Utilizes the following software to complete tasks accurately and on-time: Microsoft Word, Excel, Projects, Power Point, Outlook, BlueBeam, Sharefile systems, and Ajera
  • Must be able to pass background checks and obtain security clearances

 

In addition to the required qualifications the following skills are preferable:

  • Must be mechanical engineer EIT, PE is preferred
  • Certified through one of the recognized commissioning authorities preferred

 

General Responsibilities are:

  • Perform HVAC design, simple to complex systems
  • Perform facility ASHRAE Level 1 & 2 energy audits
  • Model facility systems for energy usage and sizing of equipment
  • Review design criteria: drawings, specifications, etc. with Q/C mindset, from a commissioning and operator’s perspective, equipment warrantees and O&M manuals: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, controls, etc.
  • Provide recommendations for optimizing building operations and addressing deficiencies
  • Develop commissioning plan and commissioning specifications
  • Perform site visits and record issues identified in a commissioning Issues Logs
  • Write and compile comprehensive commissioning reports
  • Develop and administer pre-functional and functional tests of MEP systems, fire alarm and control systems plus emergency lighting, standard and standby electrical distribution systems, UPS and standby generators, boilers, chillers, pumps and accessories, HVAC equipment, and BAS control systems
  • Schedule and direct periodic commissioning meetings
  • Attend construction and coordination meetings where needed
  • Walk-through with field balancing personal to confirm proper TAB work
  • Mentors other commissioning agents and design engineers
  • Interacts with clients, customers, officials, and contractors
  • Attends project meetings and may present specific aspects of assigned project
  • 10-30% of travel time may be required
  • Provide staff training
