Biography

Dr. Desmond is a senior scientist with more than 25 years of professional experience in several subject areas including site assessment, water and sediment quality, wastewater, solid and hazardous waste, air quality, and natural resources. He specializes in investigating and assessing health and environmental effects of toxic substances and has worked for many industries and governmental groups. His experience includes air quality permitting and health assessment, human health risk assessment, ecological risk assessment, water quality assessment, wastewater permitting and compliance, solid and hazardous waste permitting, and site assessment. Dr. Desmond has extensive experience analyzing potential impacts of emissions from incinerators and other thermal treatment operations. He has managed projects for a variety of clients including natural gas producers, pipeline companies, electric utilities, manufacturing plants, military facilities, aluminum formers, metal finishers, municipal wastewater treatment plants, and several federal and state governmental agencies. Dr. Desmond has prepared technical guidance for performing risk assessments for waste combustors and provided technical oversight to government agencies regarding combustion risk assessment. He has also provided expert witness support regarding health effects of air pollutants.
