Akana is providing construction administration and inspection services for the Blackfeet Boarding Dormitory in Browning, Montana for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
We have been working on the owner’s behalf reviewing design and construction documents from the Design/Build Contractor, C3. In addition, we represent the owner onsite daily through construction inspection services. The project is large – the building is 52,000 sf with a design and construction cost of $20 million. The new dormitory will replace an existing dormitory that is beyond its useable lifespan. The new dormitory is for 200 children in grades 1-12 who will live at the dormitory and attend public school in Browning. The Blackfeet Nation is large and remote; therefore many students must be housed close to Browning to be able to attend school.
The building includes various functions such as sleeping rooms, restrooms, administrative areas, kitchen and dining, commons and outdoor recreation areas. The project is on track to achieve LEED Silver Certification. Construction is slated to be complete in the fall of 2015. Paul DesFosses is the daily onsite Construction Inspector. Erika Price is the Project Manager leading a team of engineers for the construction administration scope of work including Paul Kluvers, Structural; Mahsa Eshghi, Civil; Scott Henderson, Mechanical; and Dwight Gray, Electrical and Life Safety. Garrett Heiman and Ian Scott have been supporting the project as well. Tim Oliver is overseeing the project as the Contract Manager. The project team has been performing quite well and has recently received a “Very Good” rating from the Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System (CPARS).
