PDX Deicing Wastewater Treatment System

PDX Deicing Wastewater Treatment System

This project for the Port of Portland involved design of enhancements to the deicing runoff collection and treatment facilities and management system at Portland International Airport in order to maintain stormwater discharge compliance.  As part of the CDM Smith team, Akana engineers provided civil site and structural design services.

Civil design included force main and site piping plans and profiles, plans for grading, storm drainage collection treatment and disposal, precharge fill grading, and an erosion control plan.  Structural design included a 15,000 SF treatment and operations building, several pump stations, and valve vaults.  We also provided structural design assistance for three new post-tensioned tanks totaling 15 MG of storage.

The proposed deicing system improvements was designed in accordance with an agreement with Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and includes the construction and operation of a new treatment system and a new outfall in the Columbia River for discharging the effluent from this enhanced system.
