Siletz Reservation Transportation Plan

Siletz Reservation Transportation Plan

Akana planners have been providing transportation planning services to the Siletz Tribes for almost 20 years, beginning with development of their first long range transportation plan in the early 1990s.  Subsequent plan updates have addressed new tribal lands and an expanded road system, and include development of a Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for implementation of short-term, high priority projects.

Most recently, our third update of their Long Range Transportation Plan and TIP included development of a Transit Plan.  Developed in coordination with regional transit providers, the Transit Plan included an evaluation of existing community public transportation resources, an assessment of tribal transportation needs and priorities for the elderly, disabled, and low-income persons; identification of strategies to address specific needs and provide efficiency in service through coordination with other transit providers; and documentation of possible coordination efforts with other transit providers.  Two surveys were conducted as part of transit planning:  one to assess transportation resources, usage, and needs of Tribal Members, and another, more focused survey determined interest and feasibility of a tribally sponsored ride share program for tribal employees.
