Akana, a Native American-owned multi-discipline consulting firm with a diverse portfolio of clients and projects throughout the United States, is seeking to add an Associate Planner to our firm. This position is full time
As an Associate Planner, you will perform regulatory analysis for land planning and environmental compliance, master planning and economic development programs.
The minimum required qualifications for this position are shown below:
- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, geography, economics, or natural resource management.
- AICP or PMP preferred
- 5-7 years of demonstrated experience performing land use, environmental planning, natural resource management, and regulatory compliance programs
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent time management and follow-through skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on and manage multiple tasks/projects with tight deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
- Proficiency in use of Arc GIS a plus
- Experience working with both private and public-sector clients.
- Local and regional knowledge and relationships with Native American clients is a plus!
Knowledge of the following preferred:
- Oregon Land Use
- Washington State GMA.
- National Environmental Policy Act
- State and Local Environmental Permitting, SEPA and MEPA
- BIA Transportation programs, including LRTP development and RIFFD’s database management
- S. Army Corps of Engineers and CWA Section 404 & 401 permitting
- ESA compliance with U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service
- USFS special use permitting and forest management plans
- BLM right-of-way grants and resource management plans
General Responsibilities are:
- Preparing studies, evaluations, and documentation for all types and sizes of planning and regulatory compliance projects
- Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate a high level of competence with technical report writing related to NEPA/SEPA/MEPA compliance, as well as other types of technical reports and regulatory (Federal, State, local) permitting documents
- Experience with land planning /environmental compliance, permitting, and agency consultations
- Developing, cultivating, and strengthening relationships with clients
- Prepare visual analysis graphics and could utilize ARC-GIS analysis tools
- Reviews or assists in the assessment of moderately complex development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans, and regulations
- Participate in public engagement activities as necessary
- An interest in tribal planning and energy sector projects
- Other duties as assigned.
