Senior Structural Engineer

Akana is a Native American-owned multidiscipline consulting firm with a diverse portfolio of clients and projects throughout the United States.  Akana’s Structural Group is currently seeking to add a full-time Senior Structural Engineer.

 

 The ideal candidate will possess strong technical and design code knowledge with experience working in the Pacific Northwest or in regions with high seismicity.   He or she will have experience leading design on a variety of structures with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while occupying a client-facing role.  The applicant should also have leadership experience and be willing to mentor junior staff and help lead the development of technical standards. 

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a closely related field with a focus on structures; Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering is a plus. PE License is required. SE License is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
  • Proficient in structural analysis software (e.g. – RISA, STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAP2000) or the ability to quickly learn based on previous experience with similar.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading the design and management of multiple projects concurrently.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of structural systems and design experience that includes a range of structural materials including wood, structural steel, concrete, masonry, cold formed metal framing, etc.
  • Strong understanding of relevant building codes, standards and regulations.
  • Experience with seismic design and retrofitting is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience in a client-facing role. and the ability to compose a variety of technical documents (e.g. – structural evaluation reports, scope of work / fee proposals).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Structural Analysis and Design: Conduct advanced structural analysis and design for a variety of projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage the structural engineering aspects of projects from conception to completion, including coordinating with interdisciplinary teams, managing budgets, and adhering to timelines.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee the quality assurance and quality control processes, reviewing and approving engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with Akana’s Quality Management Plan.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Client Interaction: Interact with clients to understand project requirements, present technical solutions, and address any concerns or queries. Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Innovation and Research: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in structural engineering. Implement innovative solutions to enhance project efficiency and sustainability.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of structural systems into overall project designs.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with structural design and construction, providing proactive solutions to address challenges.
  • Business Development:  Lead or assist in the development of structural fee proposals and other project capture activities
  • Site Work: Travel as required for site observations, field condition assessments, client office visits, etc

The salary for this position is competitive and based on experience, education, location, and certifications. Range 93K – 120K.
