Sultan River Pedestrian Bridge

Project Details

Akana provided construction management and inspection services for the City of Sultan’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge Project. This 627-foot-long, 10-foot-wide bridge runs parallel to the WSDOT US 2 vehicle bridge and was designed to improve connectivity, enhance walkability, and create an ADA-compliant, non-motorized passage across the Sultan River. The project connects two key city parks and provides streamlined access to the historic downtown core while supporting water and wastewater utility lines over the river.

As an extension of the City of Sultan, Akana delivered turnkey construction management services, overseeing all phases of the project to ensure quality, safety, and compliance. Our team coordinated inspections, managed schedules, and facilitated communication between stakeholders to keep the project on track and within scope.

The bridge’s design incorporates sustainable features, including energy-efficient lighting and a durable, low-maintenance surface. It has earned recognition from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement and from the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) for innovative steel construction techniques. These awards highlight the project’s commitment to safety, accessibility, and sustainability while creating a striking architectural landmark for the City of Sultan.
