Pendleton Mixed-Use Development

Project Details

Akana provided civil and structural engineering services for a new mixed-use development on a steeply sloping site at the southeastern edge of Pendleton, Oregon. The project consolidated two existing lots and a City right-of-way into a single parcel to create housing and community amenities. The design includes five buildings: four residential structures (Buildings A–D) featuring stacked flats connected by exterior breezeways, and one community building (Building E). The breezeways share a roof with open sections framed by decorative wood trusses, adding a distinctive architectural element.

Akana’s responsibilities included site planning and engineering design to meet local codes, tribal requirements, and ADA accessibility standards. Our team coordinated with local utilities to ensure reliable connections for water, fire protection, stormwater drainage, and sanitary sewer systems. Structural design addressed the challenges of steep terrain while supporting safe and efficient construction practices.

Through close collaboration and technical expertise, Akana delivered solutions that balance functionality, aesthetics, and compliance. The result is a development that expands housing options and enhances community resources in Pendleton.
