Jan Road Stream Restoration

Project Details

Akana served as Construction Manager for the Jan Road Stream Restoration project, a key habitat enhancement effort aimed at restoring natural stream function and improving salmonid habitat in a tributary of the Snoqualmie River. The project supports recovery of Chinook, Coho, and steelhead populations by enhancing habitat complexity and reconnecting floodplain areas.

Our team oversaw all construction operations to ensure compliance with environmental standards and design objectives. Akana coordinated closely with contractors, biologists, and regulatory agencies to meet critical in-water work windows and permit requirements, protecting sensitive aquatic resources throughout the project. Responsibilities included daily field inspections, schedule and budget tracking, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication.

Restoration activities involved reshaping streambanks, installing engineered log jams (ELJs), removing invasive species, and planting native vegetation to stabilize the riparian corridor. The project also reconnected side channels to improve floodplain interaction and provide refuge areas for juvenile fish. Akana’s proactive approach helped navigate challenges such as site access constraints and seasonal restrictions, resulting in timely and cost-effective delivery. This project exemplifies successful collaboration between King County and Akana, demonstrating a shared commitment to watershed health and endangered species recovery.
