ProjectS
Seattle Waterfront
Project Details
Akana is providing construction inspection and civil/utility engineering services for the Seattle Waterfront Project—a transformative series of capital improvements led by the City of Seattle in partnership with the community to revitalize the downtown waterfront. The project encompasses major transportation infrastructure, including utilities (water, sewer, stormwater, electrical, lighting, signals, and ITS), roadway elements (pavement, curbs, sidewalks, and driveways), and structural components such as retaining walls and foundations.
Under Task Order 001, Akana is responsible for inspection and documentation of construction activities along the Alaskan Way Main Corridor, Columbia Way, and associated utility work. This includes oversight of electrical installations such as streetlights, conduit vaults, and signal poles, as well as verification of compliance with contract specifications. Akana monitors compaction testing for 14-inch concrete roadway placement, traffic loop installation, and subsequent striping, profile adjustments, RPM placement, and red bus lane markings. Additional responsibilities include inspection of thickened-edge sidewalks, ADA curb ramps, and signage installation to ensure compliance with federal accessibility standards and project specifications.
Akana’s role extends to monitoring adherence to safety plans, traffic and pedestrian control measures, environmental requirements, and overall contract compliance. The team documents and reports non-conformance items and coordinates third-party inspections as needed, ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance throughout construction.
