ProjectS
East Marginal Way Corridor Improvements – Seattle Department of Transportation
Project Details
Akana is providing construction services for the E. Marginal Way Improvement Project, a major infrastructure initiative led by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to improve freight mobility, enhance safety, and support multimodal transportation along one of the city’s most critical industrial corridors adjacent to the Port of Seattle.
The project involves full-depth roadway reconstruction, protected bicycle facilities, upgraded traffic signals, stormwater drainage improvements, and complex utility coordination. Akana is responsible for managing the project from early planning through construction, including oversight of design consultants, schedule and budget control, permitting support, stakeholder engagement, and coordination with agencies such as SDOT, the Port of Seattle, and WSDOT.
As a federally funded project, Akana ensures compliance with NEPA and FHWA standards while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability, equity, and minimizing disruptions to port operations and local businesses. The firm also leads outreach efforts to keep nearby communities and freight stakeholders informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle.
This project highlights Akana’s ability to manage complex, high-impact transportation projects in urban settings, balancing technical performance with environmental stewardship and community needs.
