Native Salmonoid Conservation Facility

Project Details

The Native Salmonid Conservation Facility project supports Seattle City Light’s long-term environmental stewardship and mitigation commitments associated with hydroelectric operations in the Skagit River Basin. This initiative is critical to restoring and enhancing salmon and trout populations that sustain the region’s ecological balance and uphold tribal treaty rights.

Akana served as Project Manager, leading all phases of delivery—from planning and design coordination to permitting, stakeholder engagement, and construction oversight. Our team focused on rehabilitating and upgrading existing hatchery infrastructure to improve fish health, spawning efficiency, and water quality performance.

Key technical improvements included modernizing raceways, fish ladders, and water filtration systems, as well as implementing climate-resilient facility enhancements. Akana ensured regulatory compliance with state and federal fisheries agencies, coordinated closely with tribal governments, and met stringent environmental and biological standards. Through collaborative leadership and deep expertise in infrastructure and environmental project management, Akana delivered a facility that supports native fish population recovery and long-term operational sustainability for Seattle City Light.
