City of Fife 20th Street Preservation

Project Details

Akana provided comprehensive construction management and inspection services for the City of Fife’s 20th Street East Preservation Project, a federally funded initiative focused on restoring and preserving a key arterial corridor that supports regional traffic and freight movement. The project aimed to improve roadway functionality, pedestrian access, and long-term durability while minimizing disruptions to local businesses and residents.

Akana’s role included oversight of all construction activities to ensure compliance with WSDOT Standard Specifications and Local Agency Guidelines (LAG). Responsibilities encompassed daily field inspection, verification of contractor work, materials testing oversight, and documentation of progress through reports, quantity tracking, and photographic records. The team managed submittals, RFIs, change orders, and pay applications, while coordinating closely with the City’s project manager, contractor personnel, and adjacent property owners to address concerns and maintain safe access during construction.

Through proactive communication and meticulous quality assurance, Akana helped deliver a high-quality preservation project on schedule and within budget. The improvements included asphalt pavement grinding and overlay, replacement of damaged concrete panels and curbs, installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps, storm drainage upgrades, and updated pavement markings. Akana’s commitment to collaboration and compliance ensured successful project closeout and alignment with the City’s transportation improvement goals.
