Effluent Treatment Facility (ETF) Load-In Facility Expansion and Backup Station
Project Details
Akana partnered with VNSFS to design an expansion of the Effluent Treatment Facility (ETF) Load-In Facility and a new backup station. The ETF, part of the Liquid Waste Processing Facility operating since 1995, treats liquid waste to remove chemical and radioactive contaminants. This project aimed to increase capacity and improve operational efficiency.
The expansion added 1,800 square feet to the existing 3,600-square-foot load-in facility, doubling its capacity through foundation and piping system modifications. It also introduced the capability to fully enclose trucks indoors during offloading operations, enhancing safety and environmental controls. A 3,200-square-foot backup station was constructed to maintain operations during the expansion and will serve as a storage facility in the future.
Additional design elements included a new offloading system, improved road access to the backup station, widened existing roadways, and enclosing a 1,700-square-foot sump area. Akana supported all phases of the project, including procurement, construction, and commissioning, ensuring seamless integration of these critical upgrades.
