Meeker Street Multimodal Improvements – Kent Elementary School & 64th Avenue Intersection

Project Details

The City of Kent contracted Akana to provide Construction Management and Inspection Services for the Meeker Street Improvements project, part of the City’s ongoing Meet Me On Meeker Street vision to reimagine a key commercial corridor and gateway to downtown Kent.

The project will extend improvements through the 64th Avenue intersection along the south side of Meeker Street, across the Kent Elementary School frontage. Intersection work includes curb and bus bulb-outs, four new concrete crosswalks, pedestrian-scale lighting, and ADA-compliant curb ramps. East of the intersection, the Meeker promenade will be extended 750 feet, featuring a separated two-way bicycle path, median islands, pedestrian lighting, landscaping, and a rapid flashing beacon with a raised mid-block crossing.

Akana managed all phases of construction management, including reviewing contract specifications and plans for accuracy and buildability. The Construction Manager oversaw day-to-day coordination, documentation, and inspection, working closely with designers, the City, and the contractor to ensure smooth delivery.

Akana also provided inspection services for rehabilitation of piping and coating within existing wet wells, injection grouting, and repair or replacement of select valves and piping. Additional responsibilities included inspecting bypass pumping operations to allow access for coating and piping inspections. Akana’s inspector performed coating and testing verifications to ensure compliance with project and manufacturer requirements. Throughout the project, Akana coordinated with contractors, utilities, and the City’s Public Works Department, and led weekly progress meetings to keep the project on schedule and within budget.
