Portland Parks and Recreation Facility Condition Assessments
Project Details
Akana conducted facility condition assessments for multiple buildings managed by the City of Portland Parks and Recreation Department (PPR) across the Portland metropolitan area. The portfolio included a variety of building types such as maintenance yards, the Multnomah Arts Center, administrative offices, and one school building. In total, the assessed facilities encompassed more than 169,560 square feet, with several operated by different tenants, including Portland Public Schools and the Portland Rose Festival. The assessments also evaluated PPR’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for both public-facing and non-public buildings.
As part of this effort, Akana compiled a comprehensive deficiency list in Excel format and delivered a formal report that included forecasts for preventive maintenance and capital improvement expenditures, prioritized deferred maintenance recommendations, and guidance on recurring maintenance activities. Additionally, Akana conducted two surveys—one internal to the City of Portland and one external to other municipalities—to help PPR develop a standardized process for assigning criticality ratings to individual buildings and other assets. These deliverables provided PPR with actionable insights to improve facility performance and long-term planning
