Resident Engineer – WA

 This is an on-site position; some in-office hours may be required.

The Resident Engineer will serve as the on-site representative, overseeing construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards. This role coordinates with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to manage project execution, resolve field issues, and ensure successful project delivery.

What You Will Do (general responsibilities) for this position are shown below:

  • Act as the on-site representative for the consulting engineer, ensuring construction aligns with plans, specifications, contract documents, and WSDOT standards.
  • Lead field oversight and coordination, serving as the primary liaison between owner, contractor, utilities, and the design team.
  • Review and manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, RAMs, and the Record of Materials (ROM).
  • Monitor construction progress, quality, traffic control, safety, and environmental compliance; maintain daily logs and photo documentation.
  • Identify and address non-conforming work, field conflicts, and support change management activities.
  • Verify quantities, pay documentation, and certified payrolls to support progress payments.
  • Lead weekly meetings, support project startup, and manage closeout, punch lists, and final documentation.
  • Mentor junior staff and promote QA/QC best practices.

Minimum Required Key Qualifications for this position are shown below:

  • 8–10+ years of construction administration or field engineering experience (public works/WSDOT experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of plans, specifications, contract documents, and WSDOT LAG Manual, Standard Specifications, and Construction Manual.
  • Experience with ROM, RAMs, RFIs, submittals, IDRs, change orders, and pay estimates.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and field decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, field-focused environment.
