Waller Road Elders Duplexes
Project Details
Akana is providing comprehensive architectural and engineering design services for the Waller Road Elders Duplex project, a housing initiative by the Puyallup Tribal Housing Department to support low-income Tribal Elders. The project includes the design and construction of six new duplex buildings, each containing 12 two-bedroom units, with a focus on accessibility, sustainability, and community integration.
Akana’s responsibilities encompass site analysis, including review of topography, vegetation, and drainage patterns, supported by a new survey to validate existing geotechnical data. The team is developing the site master plan, building concept design, and full design development, incorporating code updates into existing floor plans. Akana collaborated with focus groups to identify housing preferences and establish design guidelines and sustainability strategies tailored to the Tribe’s goals.
Beyond design, Akana will assist with the construction bid and contracting process and provide ongoing construction management and observation through project completion. This integrated approach ensures a seamless transition from planning to delivery, resulting in high-quality housing that meets the needs of Tribal Elders while aligning with cultural and environmental priorities.
