Ghii Dee-Ne Dvn – Siletz Museum and Cultural Center

Project Details

In 2015, the Tribe engaged Akana to lead Phase II design for the Ghii Dee-ne Dvn Museum, envisioned as an addition to the Community Center on Government Hill. Akana completed the conceptual design phase before the project was paused due to funding constraints.

The museum concept was designed to harmonize with the existing Community Center, creating an ensemble of buildings rather than a standalone icon. Approached from the crest of the hill, the vertically striated structure organizes its functions across three levels: a public ground floor, a secure lower level for storage and curatorial work with controlled access, and an upper level for administrative offices offering panoramic views of the site. The material palette mirrors that of the Community Center, reinforcing continuity and cultural identity.

Ghii Dee-ne Dvn translates to “A place for the people,” reflecting the museum’s purpose as a cultural anchor for the community.
