Shoshone-Paiute Tribes Rural Planning

Project Details

Akana is guiding the preparation of a Comprehensive Rural Master Plan for the Duck Valley Indian Reservation and selected tribal holdings outside its boundaries. This strategic planning effort will provide a roadmap for future growth, infrastructure improvements, and community development.

The Shoshone-Paiute Tribes initiated this project to evaluate existing facilities, review current plans, and align long-term goals with tribal priorities. Akana’s team is conducting a comprehensive evaluation of existing conditions, analyzing goals and policies, and developing actionable recommendations to help tribal leadership and program managers prioritize projects that benefit tribal members and all residents within the reservation.

The project includes several key areas of analysis:

  • Baseline Reservation Analysis – Reviewing existing mapping and studies from tribal departments and preparing updated mapping and data tables.
  • Comprehensive Plan and Land Use Planning – Updating existing plans, developing new processes, and recommending ordinances.
  • Facilities Condition Assessment – Evaluating tribal buildings and facilities along Highway 225 and 51 corridors.
  • Infrastructure Planning – Completing existing conditions analysis, future needs assessment, and improvement recommendations.
  • Funding Strategy – Reviewing funding options and identifying opportunities.
  • School Site and Master Planning – Assisting with educational facility planning.
  • Housing Needs Assessment – Evaluating areas suitable for future housing development.
  • Grazing Plan – Developing strategies for tribal rangeland management.

Through collaboration and technical expertise, Akana is delivering a plan that supports sustainable development and cultural values. The resulting master plan will guide investments and improvements for years to come, fostering a resilient and thriving community.
