2709-S Office Building and Infrastructure Design for 222-S Laboratory Complex

Akana partnered with VNSFS to design a new facility that meets the U.S. Department of Energy’s Guiding Principles for High Performance Sustainable Buildings (HPSB). The project included supporting infrastructure such as a modern wastewater system and addressed site drainage challenges to improve overall functionality.

The new 2709-S building, totaling 17,600 square feet, was constructed on a 126,000-square-foot developed site and replaced the outdated 2704-S building, which had served the site for over 60 years. This upgrade not only expanded operational capacity but also enhanced sustainability and compliance with DOE standards.

Akana’s role encompassed architectural design and engineering support throughout procurement, construction, and commissioning phases, ensuring seamless delivery of a high-performance, energy-efficient facility.
