Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission (CRITFC) Projects
Project Details
Akana partnered with the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission (CRITFC), which represents four Columbia River Treaty tribes, to assess and improve fishing access sites along Zone 6 of the Columbia River. These sites are vital for sustaining traditional fishing practices, but years of overuse and aging infrastructure created significant challenges, including inadequate utilities, unsafe conditions, and environmental concerns.
Our team conducted a comprehensive assessment that included facility condition evaluations, environmental audits, infrastructure reviews, and regulatory compliance checks. We collaborated closely with tribal fishers and member tribes to identify current and future needs. The resulting report provided recommendations and cost estimates for repairs and upgrades, which helped secure federal funding to begin restoration work at priority sites.
Akana’s technical contributions included engineering and architectural design for improvements such as additional restrooms with dishwashing stations, enhanced fish cleaning stations, and fire suppression standpipes. Site-specific upgrades featured a membrane bioreactor wastewater treatment system and a new water supply well. We also performed cultural resource surveys and environmental reviews to meet NEPA requirements, as well as soil testing at 12 sites in coordination with BIA archaeologists. Akana continues to support CRITFC by developing procurement and contract documents for upcoming construction phases.
