Healthcare Clinic – Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians
Project Details
Akana partnered with the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua & Siuslaw Indians (CTCLUSI) to transform a former 5,400-square-foot bank building into a modern healthcare clinic. The project aims to provide essential medical and behavioral health services to the community while incorporating creative design solutions that reflect the building’s history and meet current healthcare standards.
Akana led design workshops to define programming needs, including medical and behavioral health clinics, pharmacy space, reception areas, and back-of-house functions. Leveraging the building’s existing features, the team guided the Tribe in making innovative decisions—such as repurposing the original bank safe door for pharmacy security. Akana provided site analysis, developed conceptual drawings, and advanced the design through final construction documents. Additional responsibilities included managing the public bidding process, evaluating bids, and preparing construction contracts.
To maintain an accelerated schedule, Akana delivered cost estimates and placeholder budgets for pending design details, enabling early contractor qualification evaluations. The team continues to provide construction administration services, facilitating communication between the contractor and design team to ensure quality and compliance. This collaborative approach supports timely delivery of a healthcare facility that meets the Tribe’s operational needs and long-term goals.
