Staff Grant Writer

Akana, a Native American-owned multi-discipline consulting firm with a diverse portfolio of clients and projects throughout the United States, is seeking to add a Staff Grant Writer. This professional will be a professional who works to secure funding for various Native American Tribal programs and projects.

The minimum required qualifications for this position are shown below:

 

  • 2-5 years of experience with researching grants and completing grant applications, preferably for Native American tribes. Commensurate experience from a funding agency will be considered.
  • Focused organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and ability to work with multiple deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Comfortable with collaborative completions of grant applications from beginning through submittal.
  • Clear and persuasive technical writing and editing skills.
  • Open, diligent, responsive, and personable communication skills.
  • Strong desire to develop career into more progressive responsibilities as a grant writer to fully complete own grant applications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Adept and comfortable learning new computer software used in our industry.
  • High School Diploma; college degree in a broad range of humanities, liberal arts, or general or technical sciences is strongly preferred.

General Responsibilities are:

  • Research grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies.
  • Develop review summaries of new grant opportunities.
  • Write persuasive grant narrative sections.
  • Help complete competitive grant proposals in a collaborative team environment based on the requirements of the funding organization.
  • Learn to guide and secure approvals from clients on best grant funding options to meet their needs.
  • Check for grant application accuracy and completeness against grant instructions.
  • Maintain positive relationships with fund providers and clients.
  • Strive to progressively develop your skills toward independent completion of grant applications.
  • Other grant funding research and writing tasks, as may be assigned.
